The IEA has postponed twice its scheduled encounter with the flagbearer of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo.

The party had said it will engage the IEA after the launch of its manifesto but according to Kweku Baako, sources close to the flagbearer have told him the encounter will not happen.

“I am so disappointed at the NPP and Nana Akufo-Addo [that he] did not get onto the IEA platform. It’s not going to happen. It’s too late. It’s not going to happen. My own checks show it’s not going to happen,” he said on Joy FM's Newsfile Saturday.

“There is no formal letter from the NPP today to the IEA to the reason as to why they will not appear on the IEA platform or its candidate…will not appear on that thing,” he stated.

“I think it’s a disappointment. It won’t happen now because it’s too late. The way the campaign sequence is going, it’s too late," he added.

The veteran journalists said the NPP has not shown enough commitment toward the IEA encounter.

Baako made the disclosure when panellists on the show were discussing president John Mahama's challenge to Nana Akufo-Addo for a one-on-one debate.

On the call for a debate, Baako dismissed the idea, saying given the "timing" and sequence of events, a debate between the main contenders of the 2016 elections will have no effect.

“The president’s call for a one-on-one debate with Nana Addo…was dead on arrival, completely dead on arrival,” he said.
