'NPP will declare election results'

The 2016 campaign manager of the New Patriotic Party, Peter Mac Manu, has said the party will declare the results of the November polls.

Mr. Manu said not even the electoral commission or the police service can prevent the party from declaring the results.

He made the comments in the Western Region where he was addressing party supporters.

“...The IGP cannot stop us. Whether you are the Electoral Commission, whether you are a police or security officer, whether you are a polling agent, whether you are a chief, you cannot stop NPP from declaring results,” Mr. Manu said.

Meanwhile, the Centre for African Democratic Affairs (CADA) has indicated that the 2016 general election is likely to be marred by chaos and violence if care is not taken to address issues which are currently threatening election operations in the country.

“The perception gathered so far from public discourse after the 2012 general elections in the media, press releases and conferences and demonstrations by political parties and expert opinions shared by Security Analysts as well as the observation of the LVRE point to the fact that the 2016 general elections, if care is not taken, is likely to be marred by chaos and violence,” a statement signed by the Director of Electoral Affairs for Centre for African Democratic Affairs (CADA), Mr. Kwame Damoah-Agyemang has said.

The statement added that “Electoral violence during bye-elections and other electoral related functions within this past four years were all laced with avoidable violent incidences orchestrated by ‘militant groups’ supported by known political parties. But surprisingly there was neither arrest nor prosecution of any kind, this has over the period emboldened perpetrators and have now become daring and acting with impunity even in the presence of the state security.”

CADA has therefore given the EC some recommendations in connection with security arrangements towards the November polls to ensure that Ghanaians have an incident-free election
