NPP decreased my tenure to 3 years - Mahama

The NPP headed to the Supreme Court after the 2012 general elections to challenge the results. This legal tussle drugged for about nine months.

President John Mahama has reemphasised that the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) caused him to stay in office as president for only three years.

Speaking at Asankragwaa in the Western Region President Mahama said the election petition initiated by the NPP wasted one year of his four-year term.

“For almost a year we were battling it out at the Supreme Court. Until finally the Supreme Court said let the young man go and enjoy his Presidency declaring the elections free and fair and legitimate.”

“So truly speaking, we used only three years to do all the massive works you are seeing. I believe it’s God who gives power. It’s God who crowns a king. I know it’s not because of my wisdom, my strength or my handsomeness, it’s God [who made me President].”

Meanwhile, President Mahama is hopeful he will be retained due to the developmental projects he has undertaken in his tenure of office.
