NDC leadership moves to quell tensions in Volta NDC

Earlier, the party's campaign coordinator, Kofi Adams, said the 'civil war' was as a result of the misunderstanding about the guidelines for the formation of the campaign task force, promising to deal with the issues as soon as possible.

The threat comes ahead of the launch of the region's campaign task team for the 2016 election.

The aggrieved executives say they are being sidelined from the party's campaign activities in the region.

The “NDC having a good listening leadership have called on us," deputy Volta regional secretary of the NDC, Gbande Mustapha said on Citi FM Friday evening. “They have asked us to restrain ourselves. A meeting is going to be convened on Sunday for us to resolve our differences.”

Mr Mustapha in the interview said they had issues with the composition of the regional campaign team, but hurriedly said they don’t have a problem with the individuals in the team.

He said: “We have concerns of sideline, concerns of involvement. Indeed, if you check the names of the individuals as being put out as members of the campaign task force, we don’t have a problem with any of them, but we just think that the internal processes must be satisfied for everybody and individual to be clear in his mind the way forward. And that is what we sort to do. I think the leadership have called on us for the matter to be immediately resolved."

Background

In a statement Friday, the 11 regional executives of the governing NDC said: “We wish to draw the attention of the stakeholders of the great NDC to our decision to abstain ourselves from the said functions with immediate effect.”

According to the disgruntled executives their action is because the party’s regional chairman and secretary had “decided to exclude the Regional treasurer, the two vice Chairmen and all deputies from all committees relating to the 2016 campaign in response to apparent calls for accountability on how logistics and resources received by the region in the past were disbursed and used.”

“Our region has a convention of wider consultation on issues of this nature with all stakeholders, but in this special and important exercise, such conventions were ignored, and it appears some few executives notably the Chairman and Regional Secretary have chosen to run the activities of the party in isolation as they have been doing for a while now!”

The executives said they were unhappy with the posture of the two regional executives.

The NDC launched its national campaign on August 14. Regional campaign task-forces are subsequently being launched to help organise an effective campaign.
