"I said could," Mac Manu clarifies results declaration comments

Mr. Manu told party supporters in the Western Region that not even the police or any security officer can prevent the NPP from declaring the results

Peter Mac Manu

Mr. Manu told party supporters in the Western Region that not even the police or any security officer can prevent the NPP from declaring the results.

““...The IGP cannot stop us. Whether you are the Electoral Commission, whether you are a police or security officer, whether you are a polling agent, whether you are a chief, you cannot stop NPP from declaring results,” he said.

However, in an interview with Joy’s FM Kojo Yankson on the "Super Morning Show", Mr. Manu said he used the word “could” when he said the NPP will declare the results of the November polls.

“I said could,” he continued. “Could means we will bring our own results. I said NPP could also. This means bringing our own result from the polling station, declared at the polling station by the electoral commission to the collation centre.”

He explained further that the party will collate its own results and compare it with that of the EC to check result discrepancies.

“We will collate our own results and compare [with the EC’s] so that when at a particular polling station we had 1,200 and at the collation centre, 200 has been credited to us, we sort it out.”

He dismissed suggestions his comments could lead to violence, saying the party has every right to collate its own results and make it public.

He also brushed off claims what the party intends to do is against the law.

According to him, “when the results are posted at the polling station, it becomes an open document and anybody can use that source document for further interrogation o the results.”
