Gabby Otchere-Darko has apologised for falsely accusing the Electoral Commission (EC) of sending thumb printed ballot papers to the Ketu South Constituency.

Gabby, as he is affectionately called, stirred up emotions Saturday night on Facebook with his allegation, forcing the EC to offer a swift response to Ghanaians to disregard his allegation.

His allegation generated hundreds of comments from NPP sympathisers who accused the EC of scheming to rig the elections in favour of governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He wrote on Facebook, "my apologies to the EC and all my friends for rebroadcasting information on FB I later found not to be accurate on the fundamental facts.

"The lesson is let us all endeavour to triple crosscheck information before sharing, especially when the intention is not to deceive but to alert.

"After triple checking, these are the facts I now have of the ballots inspection involving Ketu South.

"They found a bag containing the 100 booklet series with seals and portions of the bag destroyed/damaged. That raised alarm and prompted them to decide to recount all the ballots and it was in this process that they found the following:

1. A stained ballot at the portion of PPP presidential candidate Paa Kwesi Nduom.

2. 1 booklet contained 101 instead of 100 leaflets.

3. Another Constituency other than Ketu South had 34 extra ballots.

"It is for this reason that I pulled down the original post. Yes, there are those who still insist on their version but I will not knowingly be a vehicle for any misinformation.

"I have no desire to bastardise the EC or the elections. Once again, my sincere apologies to all. We must continue to be vigilant but not to the point of misinformation. My apologies to Ketu South, as well.

Meanwhile, the EC has  flatly rejected Gabby's claim.

"Our preliminary checks from Ketu South shows that there is no iota of truth in the claim made in the post below. No such thing happened in Ketu South. Please ignore it. Our detailed response coming soon," the commission said.
