Find out why the election was incident-free

Many Ghanaians had earlier expressed fear of a poor electoral process using the BVDs. This was because of all the issues that came with the use of BVDs in the 2012 election.

Deputy Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Commission Yusif Ayuba explained that they realised they needed to provide more than one BVD at every polling station to help make the process a smooth one.

“In 2012 we had never used it so that was the first time we were deploying such a device on a very wide scale and it was also only one per polling station so if it developed a problem getting one to replace it was difficult.”

“So we had enough backups this time and after 2012 we used it in the district level elections, we also used it in all our by-elections so we knew how it will work and the problems associated with it.”

He also mentioned that the efficiency of the scanner which was used was enhanced making it easy to read the fingers of electorates.

However, in this year’s election, the EC agreed to use both manual and biometric means of verification to make the process easy.
