'Fake' thumb-printed papers: There are more out there - Police

“We’ve just been informed that there are more somewhere so we’ve provided security detail for some journalists to move in with the police to retrieve the said ballot papers so that we can examine those as well,” Ashanti regional police commander, COP Kofi Boakye said on Monday.

Earlier in the morning media reports suggested that the Police in Kumasi had upon a tip-off seized three bags stuffed with materials reported to be thumb-printed presidential ballot papers found at the Madison Hotel at TUC in the Ashanti Regional capital.

The report suggested that all the ballot papers had thumb prints for President John Mahama, the Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

But COP Kofi Boakye said the ballot papers retrieved had no serial numbers, therefore, making them fake.

Addressing the media in Kumasi this morning COP Kofi Boakye said the regional EC Director “came saying it was not part of the materials which means they are fake.”

Meanwhile, the hotel has pointed accusing fingers at the New Patriotic Party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Wontumi), and his assistant, Andy Owusu, in the incident.
