Director of Communications of the EC, Eric Dzakpasu explained that even though the political parties encourage people to register they do not exhibit the same zeal during the exhibition process.

He said: “When it comes to registration, the political parties are very active. They go round, they make sure their people go to the registration centres to go and register massively. It beats the mind when it comes to exhibition, which is the final stage in certifying a register for credible election we are found wanting so much”.

But Dzakpasu expressed hope that the turnout will increase as the days go by. “Being a 21 day exercise our expectations are that as the days go by it will pick up. It has always been the case when it comes to this critical stage of the exercise”.

He said the Commission was doing its best to encourage more people to go check the details in the voters register within the time of the exhibition.

He mentioned that over 130 FM stations are playing jingles and TV promos. He further noted EC officials across the districts are embarking on intensive publicity education.

The EC PRO also said even though the EC is playing its role very well, they will encourage other stakeholders, especially the media and political parties to also play their roles efficiently for the registration to continue and end smoothly.

“But we are doing our part, we are just calling on the stakeholders to join and play their part so that we can all have a very successful exhibition exercise,” he concluded.

Meanwhile the New Patriotic Party director of elections, Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, has criticised the Electoral Commission (EC) for the "poor publicity" surrounding the voter register exhibition exercise.
