Most banks in the country will be closed to the general public from 12 noon on December 7 to enable their staff to exercise their franchise.
Most of the banks have sent messages to their clients informing them of this development.
Their text messages indicated the banks will be closed from at various times ranging from 12pm to 3pm on the election day.

OmniBank, for instance, sent a message which read “dear Valued Customer, due to the presidential and parliamentary elections to be held on the 7th December 2016, our branches will be closed to the public at 12noon on Wednesday, 7th December 2016. However, our gh-link enabled ATMs and Freedom Mobile Banking Services will be available for cash withdrawal and transaction banking. For further information, please contact our Call Center on 0307086000. Wishing you a peaceful election. Bank for all, Peace for all.”
FirstTrust also sent a message indicating that “dear valued customer, kindly be informed that our branches will close for business at 1pm on Election Day December 07. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Other banks that have sent similar messages to their clients include UT Bank, Beige Capital and UBA.
Meanwhile, the staff of ADB will have the day off in order to exercise their franchise.
Meanwhile, ATM machines of banks are expected to be active during the period.
In a related development, most operators in the retail industry will not open for business in a bid to exercise their civil rights.
