The Vice-Presidential nominee of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) Brigitte Dzogbenuku has called on the National Peace Council to comment on the EC’s disqualification of the thirteen presidential hopefuls.

Speaking on Accra-based Class FM she expressed disappointment in the silent attitude of the Peace Council towards this development.

“If that is their idea of keeping the peace, sometimes keeping quiet will not keep the peace, so, yes I am surprised that they are silent, I’m disappointed, in fact, in their silence, and this is where I go off track a bit. The problem in this country is people don’t do what they ought to do and that’s why we are where we are. They should do what they ought to do, we don’t have to go and point out to them their work. They know why they are institutions and why they exist, so, they should do what they ought to do.”

She also added that the Peace Council must also intervene in the probe of their source of funding by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO). She argued that if the PPP is being probed then all other political parties must go through the same scrutiny.

“Everybody has the right to run for the presidential election and people should need to feel free not to be threatened by using the government agencies and security agencies to intimidate them. We are not in isolation, if this is being done to us, it can be done to any other party in opposition.”

The Daily Graphic Newspaper reported that EOCO in a letter is asking Dr Nduom to explain the source of the over GHc1.7 million Cedis he used to pay for the filing fees of the parliamentary candidates of his party and his presidential filing fee at the Electoral Commission (EC).

Another letter addressed to the All People’s Congress presidential nominee Hassan Ayariga is demanding that he tells how he got over over $6 million dollars to procure vehicles, among others for his campaign.
