Gov't will jail COCOBOD, BOST, SSNIT bosses - Ken Agyapong

According to Ken Agyapong, the heads of three government institutions would be especially investigated for corruption charges.

The Member of Parliament for the Assin Central Constituency, Kennedy Agyapong, has said that the new government would prosecute and jail corrupt officials from the immediate past administration.

The director of Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Ernest Thompson, managing director of Bulk Oil Storage and Transport (BOST), Kingsley Kwame Awuah-Darko, and former chief executive officer of COCOBOD, Stephen Opuni would be the targets of three big investigations into alleged corruption during the opposition National Democratic Congress’ eight-year rule, the legislator said during a television discussion.

Analysis

The MP for Assin Central is infamous for making wild, unverifiable and untrue allegations of this nature in the past. In June 2016, he accused Charlotte Osei; the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) saying that: she was appointed in exchange for sex. He has since then said that comment was ‘a joke’.

He is also known for his sharp tongue and lack of political correctness especially during media interviews. In a recent television discussion, he described the country’s police chief as an ‘asshole’.

During the 2016 election campaign, President Nana Akufo-Addo promised to set up an independent prosecutor's office to look specifically at corruption.
