NDC MP questions EOCO’s decision to freeze Opuni’s accounts

Opuni's account and other assets were frozen after a formal investigation was opened against him.

“I do not think it should just be a due process that when you are being investigated your accounts should be frozen,” he said on Joy FM’s Newsfile Saturday.

However, Mr Hagan says such a move suggests wrongdoing or creates the impression that the person under investigation has some money in his account he or she cannot reconcile.

“EOCO I believe they know what they are doing. They have a reason why they have done that but many times, people’s assets have been frozen and then, in the end, it is given back to them.

“It creates all sought of damage I mean until we know exactly what is going on, at this stage when you freeze someone’s assets, the general impression is that the person might have done something wrong or there is more in that person’s account that is really you know, cannot be reconciled with what he does or what he has done.”
