Suspended chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Paul Afoko, who lost his appeal to have his suspension reversed, has indicated he will head to court to seek redress over the matter.

“I swore an oath at the Tamale National Delegates Congress to defend and uphold the constitution of the party to over 5,000 party delegates, members and supporters and this is exactly what I Intend to do,” he stated.
The embattled chairman who spoke to the Daily Graphic said his final attempt to exhaust internal party structures to resolve any grievances, the NC’s meeting last Thursday did not go through due process to consider his petition against constitutional breaches of the party.
“I am not doing this for Paul Afoko but to ensure that the constitutional principles of the party are upheld and the sanctity of the party maintained for its current and future growth.”

“The illegally constituted NC failed to look at the merits and demerits of my petition and merely brushed them aside. There was disingenuity in the whole process. If you want to suspend an elected officer of the party, there is a way to do that, as prescribed by the constitution of the party,” he argued.
The National Council of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), on Thursday, affirmed the decision by the National Executive Council (NEC) to suspend its National Chairman, Paul Afoko.

The decision was arrived at after a marathon meeting on Thursday November 12, to deliberate and consider an appeal document forwarded to the party by Mr. Afoko.
Out of 77 people, 70 voted for the suspension to be upheld, six abstained from voting, while one voted for him to be reinstated.

But Mr Afoko said “I simply want to leave behind a legacy as the national chairman of the NPP who worked first and foremost to uphold the constitution of the party, allowed party structures to work and maintained a sound financial profile for the party”.
