EC will be well-resourced to organise 2016 elections - Terkper

This was revealed at the 2016 budget hearing and financial statement on Friday.

 

Ahead of the 2016 elections, President John Mahama has given the assurance his government will resist the temptation of election year overspending.

In previous years, fiscal deficit have gone up especially during an election year which have had dire effects on the country's economy.

However, Finance Minister, Seth Terkper, has revealed the Electoral Commission will be well-resourced to ensure a free, fair and peaceful elections.

“2016 is significant in many respects; the country will go through presidential and parliamentary elections. Let me assure this House and the nation that the Electoral Commission and other governance institutions will be adequately resourced to ensure the conduct of free, fair and transparent elections."

He added “Let there be no doubt, the economy benefits substantially from our peaceful and acclaimed elections.

“Despite it being an election year, let me also reiterate President Mahama’s assurance of sustaining fiscal discipline while investing prudently in infrastructure and social development."
