In a post on his Facebook page on Friday, the 2012 PPP presidential candidate said the Electoral Commission (EC) “must accept to work with the principle of continuous registration once a citizen reaches the age of 18 and carries a national identification card.”

This, he said, will prevent political parties from questioning the credibility of the voters register.

Currently, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and some pressure groups are demanding the compilation of a new voters register because according to them, the existing register is bloated.
The EC subsequently called for the submissions of proposals on the compilation of a new voters register.
In all, the Commission received 15 submissions from political parties and 15 from the Civil Society Organizations, religious bodies and IT companies.

The EC is scheduled to evaluate these proposals with the help of an independent expert.

Dr. Nduom believes “the back and forth arguing about whether we need a new voter's register or not is not the most productive thing to do.”
According to him, Ghanaians are already aware of the problems embedded in the voter's register therefore, it is time to “stop playing the game of who is the best expert at defining the problem. We need solutions.”
He argued that the key to the problem lies with the National Identification Authority (NIA).

Dr. Nduom explained that without the NIA, any solution which will be proffered “will be short-lived.”

“Any attempt to clean up the current register needs an acceptable identifier for everyone in that database,” he said.
He further challenged President John Mahama to tell the general public “where he sits on the task of strengthening the NIA.”
“Any friendly country or organization that wants to see a credible 2016 election should help provide the resources to the NIA to ensure the building of a secure data base of Ghanaians,” he added.
The PPP founder was of the view that the private sector in Ghana is capable of building a comprehensive database of citizens within six months and all that is needed is “the will and the resources to make this happen.”

He served notice that the PPP will go all out “to push for this solution because it will support the cause of our national development in other areas as well - financial sector, discipline, criminal justice, etc.”
“It is time to stop the noise and needless threats to our peace of mind. 2016 will come and we will have the elections. The question is, will we know peace and stability after the votes are cast and counted?”
