Dr. Sakara is still a member of the CPP - Nii Armah Akomfra

Dr. Sakara’s resignation leaves Samia Nkrumah as the only front runner in the CPP flag bearer race

The Convention Peoples Party says Dr. Abu Sakara still remains a member of the party as he has not communicated to the party his decision to resign.

Dr. Foster Abu Sakara who was the flag bearer of the party  in the 2012 elections indicated his resignation and subsequent decision to contest the November 2016 election as an independent candidate in a press statement.

The Agric Economist said he is no longer attracted to the CPP. He said the “conduct and misplaced priorities that still dominate decision making in the party,”  is unhealthy therefore his decision.

He also said his  “resources, energy and talent can be put to more productive purpose as an independent Presidential Candidate.”

But in an interview with Pulse.com.gh the CPP general secretary Nii Armah Akomfra said “we haven’t received that resignation...you are still a member until you formerly resign or until you are suspended we havenet gone through that process."

He however added that "if he pursues an independent career he has to be expelled from the party.”

He said the party is as shocked as some members of the public by the announcement of the Agric Economist and the party wishes he rescinds his decision.

“we hope that he will still think about his decision nominations for flag bearer of the party are still opened for another week or so and we that he will be able to pick form as an aspirant within the party.”

On Dr. Sakara’s accusation that the party has misplaced priorities, the General Secretary said Dr. Sakara “would have to explain that to the public and indeed the party if he means well for the party.”

Dr. Sakara’s resignation leaves Samia Nkrumah as the only front runner in the race for the flag bearer for now.

In the lead up to the 2012 elections after the resignation of Dr. Papa Kwasi Ndoum two former executives of the CPP accused Samia Nkrumah of charting a selfish course that will ensure she eventually emerges as the flag bearer of the party.
