NPP has Muslims at heart – Karbo responds to Dauda

Addressing some Muslim youth in Koforidua in the Eastern region, the Member of Parliament said the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition has a long history of discriminating against Muslims when they are in power and will repeat it under a Nana Addo government.

Deputy Communications Director of the NPP, Anthony Karbo, has questioned the NDC’s moral right to incite Muslims especially those living in the Zongos against the NPP any time election is drawing closer.

Karbo’s question follows claims by the Local Government minister that Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP will discriminate against Muslims if they win the general elections in December.

Addressing some Muslim youth in Koforidua in the Eastern region, Alhaji Collins Dauda said the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition has a long history of discriminating against Muslims when they are in power and will repeat it if Nana Addo gets the nod.

“They are accusing several Muslims of not being Ghanaians. In 2000, they claimed that over 631 Muslims were not Ghanaians in Adeisu. Today, that same person is in the Zongos trying to convince you and telling you things. The NPP that is talking to you today cannot be trusted. If you give them the chance to come to power again, they will do the same things to you.”

He cited an instance where his citizenship was challenged by the NPP in the previous election and therefore encouraged his fellow Muslims not to trust the NPP.

"The NPP looked into my face and told me that because I am Morsi, I am not a Ghanaian and they challenge me to go to court until the court cleared me. These are the people we are talking about. My brothers and sisters, must you entertain someone who has hurt and deprived you in the past? These UP people are not people that the NDC and Muslims must listen to and trust,” he stated.

“When they were sacking people under the Alliance Compliance Order it was a difficult issue. Many prominent Muslims in Koforidua were sacked and made to go away without their properties. My father was a prominent and wealthy man in the Brong Ahafo region too, but Busia ordered for them to go to their hometowns,” he said.

But reacting to the comments, Karbo described the comments made by the Member of Parliament as unfortunate and called on all to condemn it. He said comparatively the NPP had Muslims at heart than the NDC.

“No Political party appears to be addressing the developmental challenges in the Zongo community head on,we in the NPP have provided that. What have the NDC done for the Zongo community for them to think that it is ok to only incite Zongos when it’s time for elections to get their votes and forget about them”
