MFWA report baseless - Yamin

Joseph Yamin rubbishes Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) report.

The former deputy Sports Minister, Joseph Yamin has described the findings and report by the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) that ranked he and four other politicians as the worst culprits in using indecent language on the airwaves.

“To me It’s a bogus report, I don’t see how a statement I made in reaction to what Chairman Wontumi said as abusive. The report is not credible because I don’t use abusive words,” he said in an interview with Pulse.com.gh.

He also indicated that the National Media Foundation has no basis for including his name in the list of their recent ranking adding that he does not use abusive word.

The NDC man, [Yamin] former General Secretary of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, also known as Sir John; a communication member of the same party, Hopeson Adorye have topped the list of politicians who used abusive language on radio.

The others were Charles Owusu, a member of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) communication team; Daasebre Dwamena, a presenter on Kumasi-based Ashh FM; Yaw Adomako Baafi, Deputy Communications Director of the NPP; and Ernest Owusu Bempah, Communications Director of the National Democratic Party (NDP).

The latest report is based on monitoring of 972 programmes on 40 radio stations across the country for the period of May 16 - 31, 2016.

In all, 58 indecent expressions were recorded on 17 out of the 40 radio stations monitored.
