NPP's call for new voters’ register baseless – Anyidoho

The NPP is pushing an agenda to get the voters' register expunged and replaced with a new one. The party has begun garnering the support of other political parties to join them in their course.

Koku Anyidoho

Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho has described as ‘baseless’ the call by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for a new voters’ register ahead of the 2016 elections.

“The law states clearly that preparation of voters’ register should be done after every census. The last census we had was in 2010, and it was the basis for the preparation the 2012 biometric registration. Why should we go in for a new one? Is not going to be possible,” he said on  on

“Kwabena Agyepong is wasting his time; he should rather concentrate on calming the simmering tension is his party,” he added.

The General Secretary of the NPP, Kwabena Agyepong has argued that, “A new voters' register will go a long way to shore up public confidence in the electoral process and this is critical for the successful conduct of a peaceful, free and fair election in 2016.’’
