The Minority in parliament has said that it will no longer partake in the approval of new contracts and loans brought before the house by the outgoing NDC government.

The Minority leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu at a press conference in Accra today said this is because the Mahama-led government has failed to provide the house with their handing over notes as required by the transition act.

“We in the NPP minority caucus would want to register our deepest disgust at unilateral decisions being taken on how parliament approve of loans, suppliers credit agreement and project implementation agreements; the latter of which process is unknown to the rules or procedure of parliament in this period of transition.”

They also accused the outgoing government of recruiting people into the public service with barely two weeks for the them to hand over to a new government.

“We regret to state that we cannot be part of processes and decisions which in our considered opinion are illegitimate. It is also instructive to note that recruitment are being made into the public service. We are aware of the agreement between the government and the IMF in respect of the net freeze in employment until 2017 excerpt in the health and education sectors,” he said.

This is not the first time the NPP is accusing the outgoing government of such last-minute contracts and appointments. The leader of Nana Addo’s transition team Osafo Marfo also made similar accusations but the NDC has responded denying such accusations. The spokesperson for the NDC transition team Hanna Tetteh insists the NPP has the power to cancel such deals after they assume power.
