We will not cause nationwide blackout on Friday- ECG staff

Contrary to the reports, PUWU, under whose supervision the ECG staff are currently embarking on a three-hour sit down strike from Wednesday to Friday says, they have no plans of shutting  down power supply on Friday, 26 August 2016.

“As part of our press conference, we did not state that we are putting the entire country off. What the road map is that we are stating a demonstration from 8am in the morning to 11 am which continues today, Thursday, and will continue tomorrow, and even if we are in discussions with government we are not going to stop, because it seems that we are not being taken serious. But we never said we are taking the entire country off. Let me even say that if you say the entire nation, ECG is only from Accra to Kumasi , we don’t  go beyond Ashanti, so when somebody says that ECG is going to put the entire country off,  definitely there might be a miscommunication there, we have not said that.”

On the apparent lack of support from the general public to the agitations against the privatisation of ECG, Abraham Lincoln said their  apathy to the course of the staff of the ECG is understandable given that customers have not been given stable power supply for three years.

“ But I would entreat members of the general public to look past the energy crisis, because the staff of the ECG are not fighting for the interest of workers only”, he said.

Mr. Nyantakyi believes that giving a private company a monopoly in Ghana’s energy distribution sector will  do more harm than good to the  Ghanaians as a whole.
