Luck ran out on a fuel thief when he tried to siphon fuel from a generator in a building at East Legon.
A young man who goes about stealing fuel from generators has been finally apprehended after attempting to siphon fuel from a generator in a building at East Legon in Accra.
The fuel thief who had successfully siphoned fuel from the generator on previous occasions was caught in the act at about 2:30am on Monday, Graphic Online has reported.
The incident happened in a building that serves as an Accra office for Swift Worldwide Resources, an oil and gas recruitment firm, that offers services in both upstream and downstream job recruitment, staffing, logistics and payroll solutions to oil companies.
In an interview the security officer who arrested the thief disclosed that for some time now, they noticed that the fuel in the generator runs out quickly anytime it was refilled.
Last week, the tank was filled, but they did not use the generator. When they tried using it before the weekend, there was no fuel in it.
A careful examination revealed that there was sand on the floor indicating that some fuel might have spilled and it was cleaned with the sand.
According to the security man, at about 2:30am Monday, the suspect, jumped the fence, wall into the building and went straight to the generator to siphon fuel.
He said he managed to arrest him, unleashed some slaps and later tied him up till daybreak.
The suspect was later handed over to the police as further investigation are being carry on.
