Ghana to lose $9.9 million to AMERI power plant

Under the agreement, the 9.9 million dollars is supposed to be paid  to AMERI for the conversion of natural gas from the Ghana National Gas Company to generate 250 megawatts power for the national grid.

This is per the agreement between government and Africa and Middle East Resource Investment (AMERI), owners of the power plant.

However, natural gas production from the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah has reduced from 87 million Standard Cubic Feet a day to 47 million scf-d, meaning that AMERI has been rendered redundant at the moment, but government will still have to pay the 9.9 million dollars to the company.

Head of Corporate Affairs at the Ghana National Gas Company, Alfred Ogbamey, in an interview with Pulse.com.gh revealed that production of natural gas has dropped due to bad weather.

“Production of gas from the FPSO has been cut in half. And the operators of the FPSO, Tullow Oil, have assured us the problem will be rectified soon. They say it is due to bad weather.”
