Residents still homeless; NADMO yet to step in

Over 200 residents have been left at the mercy of the weather following the heavy downpour as they do not have any place to sleep.

The rain has also ripped off the roof of some classrooms in the area, forcing some of the students to learn under unhygienic conditions.

The residents are thus appealing for help and hoping that the National Disaster Management Organisation will come to their aid.

The District Chief Executive of Zabzugu, Issifu Alidu Laa-Bandow, in an interview with Accra-based Joy FM said "The assembly is constrained. Though we have resources, if you look at the extent of damage it will be difficult for the Assembly alone to be able to shoulder this.

"So we are calling on NGOs and any other organisation to come in."

He added that his outfit is currently cooperating with NADMO to offer help to residents, adding that "The regional officer has given indication from Monday to Wednesday they will respond."

"The Assembly is also waiting for them. As and when they come we are prepared to move down to get support to our people so that they get back to their various houses so that life will continue as it used to be [before the rain]," the DCE said.
