The Tema Police Region has over the past year increased its divisions, districts, stations and posts to effectively fight crime.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mrs Beatrice Zakpaa Vib-Sanziri, outgoing Regional Police Commander disclosed this during a pull out ceremony in her honour.

DCOP Vib-Sanziri, who took over the affairs of the Command on March 13, 2014, has been appointed the Director-General, Human Resource Department of the Ghana Police Service.

She indicated that the creation of the new divisions, districts and posts has brought policing closer to the people in the Region, which has seven Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs).

She however, added that a few of the stations and posts are yet to be operationalized due to lack of infrastructure, adding that action has been initiated to get them fully operational.

The outgoing Commander noted that the downward trend of some major crimes in the region is attributed to the rezoning of the various MMDAs for effective day and night patrols.

DCOP Vib-Sanziri said some of the measures included random snap checks, increased visibility and accessibility to the public, crime sensitisation programmes within various communities and the cultivation of credible informants.

Touching on on-going projects, she indicated that the Command has officially cut the sod for the construction of a Police Clinic at the Community Two Barracks because Tema is the only Police Region without a Police Medical facility.

She appealed to corporate bodies and individuals to assist the Command to complete the project since it is dear to the hearts of personnel due to the difficulties some of them go through in times of medical emergencies

ACP Awini gave the assurance that he would build upon her good works to ensure the safety of lives and properties in the industrial cum harbour Region, which has its own peculiar crime challenges.

He appealed to corporate institutions, traditional leaders, religious groupings and individuals in the Region to give him the same support they gave DCOP Vib-Sanziri to ensure his success.
