Lawyer Ayikoi Otoo believes Agbesi Woyome escaped going to jail but will refund the GH¢51.2 million.
Former Attorney-General Nii Ayikoi Otoo said the ruling which acquitted and discharged Alfred Agbesi Woyome only means “he has escaped going to prison” for now.
He further added that “the order given by the Supreme Court that he should refund that money remains.”
Businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome was acquitted and discharged on the count of defrauding by false pretence.
High Court Judge John Ajet-Nassam read the ruling on the criminal case of fraud acquitted and discharged him.
Woyome was standing trial for allegedly defrauding the state of GH¢51.2 million.
An earlier ruling by the Supreme Court that Mr. Woyome should refund the money paid to him, still stands.
Nii Ayikoi Otoo stated that “the Supreme Court is the highest court of the land and when they have ruled that he should refund the money and in view of the various standards that is required as against a criminal case and a civil case, you’ve gone off the hook for now".
"I do not think that the high court ruling affects the decision of the Supreme Court. I think the value is the same. He should go and refund the money.”
