Voting ends, counting underway in Talensi by-election

Voting has ended in the Talensi by-election in the Upper East region. Counting is expected to begin in the minutes ahead after sorting out of ballots have been done.

There were reports of sporadic shooting in Talensi following a clash between supporters of the ruling NDC and the opposition NPP.

This according to reports have resulted in some injuries and damage of vehicles and properties.

Thirty-nine thousand five hundred and twenty-three (39,523) eligible voters in the Talensi constituency voted in the Talensi by-election at 74 polling stations.

Eight political parties contested in the by-election.

Some political pundits have tipped NDC's candidate BT Baba to emerge winner after the polls. The NDC has dominated the seat for over 20 years until the opposition NPP won it in the 2012 general elections.

This follows the enskinment of its Member Parliament Robert Nachinab Doaneng as the paramount chief of Tongo.
