Public reactions to tariff increases

Pulse asked a range of people what they thought of the news.

Ghanain residents have displayed mixed reactions to Monday's annoucement of tariff hikes in water and electricty.

Retail worker Joseph Darko said the increase was "uncalled for" and the increase of 59.2 % for electrictity and 67.2 % for water was too much.

However, Edmund Atike, also a retail worker supported the hike in electricity charges.

He said more revenue could fix the current energy crisis, however, he did not support the increase in water charges. "Water is life," he said, and if people could not afford to pay for it they would suffer.

Taxi driver Lawrence Appiah said the increases were "so harsh to ordinary people".

He said people already suffered from dumsor and water shortages.
