Bunkpurugu clashes; 3 die, 35 housed torched

The clashes is between the Jamong family, which is claiming title to the Bunkpurugu skin, has come under attack from the ruling Jafog family.

 

One more person has been found dead as a result of renewed conflict in Bunkpurugu bringing the death toll to three.

Two of deceased persons have been identified by the police as Dupak Lapak, 58, a farmer and Bawa Chanleep, 20, a tailor. The third person is yet to be identified.

A total of 35 houses have also been reported burnt.

The Northern Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Ken Yeboah confirmed the shooting of the deceased persons.

The chieftaincy dispute has been in court for eight years but that has not stopped the factions from going at each other from time to time.

Numerous deaths have been recorded between Jamong and Jafog clans in the Bunkprugu traditional area.

There are have also been attempts for peaceful co-existence in between the two clans.

Police have also begun investigations into what caused the death of two in Bunkprugu.

Two AK 47 assault rifles have been retrieved by the police during the clashes.
