Media reports suggest that a number of houses have been set ablaze.

An eyewitness told Pulse.com.gh that the shooting has brought business to a standstill in the area.

“I can confirm it. The shooting is in connection with an enskinment that has taken place and one side is not happy about it,” he said.

According to the source, the enskinment happened on Thursday, February 9, 2017.

He also added that “the case has been reported to the Northern Regional Police Command and the Coordinating Council”

The Public Relations Officer of the Northern Regional Police Command ASP Ebenezer Tetteh who also confirmed the incident and added that more security personnel have been sent to the town to ensure calm restored.

There has been sporadic violence in Bimbilla since 2014 after a contestant in the longstanding kinship dispute between members of the Gbugmayili gate was assassinated.

Properties were damaged while more than 10 people lost their lives after some butchers broke custom by refusing to offer sacrifices to Yakubu Dasana Andani whose legitimacy they challenged.
