The ministry through the minister, Hanna Tetteh in the advent of a failed coup attempt in Turkey, which left at least 265 people dead and more than 1,440 others injured said, "Wherever we have an Embassy the first point of call for our citizens in distress should be the Ghana Embassy in their country of residence."

In a tweet, she said although some Ghanaians have resorted to the media to make their plight known to attract help, that alone will not be enough to draw the attention of the appropriate authorities to come to their aid, hence the need to register with the embassies.
