The Privileges Committee of Parliament has summoned radio host Blakk Rasta over allegations he made about Members of Parliament (MPs) that almost 80% smoke marijuana (weed).

Blakk Rasta said on an Accra based radio station Hitz FM that “almost 80% of the Ghanaian parliamentarians smoked the banned substance marijuana (weed) and therefore weed should be legalized.”

He said most of the leaders in the House smoked the substance, hence, he saw no reason why the substance should not be legalized.

This allegation infuriated Parliament and called on the radio presenter and management of the station to appear before the House to explain the bases to which he made those allegations.

The Daily Searchlight newspaper which published the story will also appear before the Committee.

Speaker of Parliament Edward Doe Adjaho Thursday ruled the Committee should submit a report within the two weeks, the same period they are to invite him for questioning.

“This is a proper and fit case to refer to the privileges committee. I am giving the committee two weeks to submit their report to the House.

“In the deliberations of their work they should take article 123 into account. Therefore, the publication is referred to them and in that publication the person whose name has been mentioned and the paper and radio station referred accordingly.”
