37 Local GPRTU Imposes Sanctions On Drivers For Charging Old Fares

These two drivers were asked to park their vehicles for a day without work pending decisions on the further disciplinary measure to be taken against them.

The 37 Area local branch of the national Ghana Road Transport Trade Union of the TUC, has taken a strict and imposing turn on drivers who flout it's objectives.

The executives of the local GPRTU imposed sanctions on two drivers who had decide to charge the old fares which have duly been disapproved by the union.  These two drivers were asked to park their vehicles for a day without work pending decisions on the further disciplinary measure to be taken against them.

The imposition of these sanctions apparently were a result of the report and complain of a passenger who spoke against the charge of "exorbitant prices". The situation came to light when the Minister of Transport, Mrs Dzifa Ativor went round town to check whether drivers were complying with the directives to reduce fares, following the 10% reduction in fuel prices.
