Giant billboard have been mounted by Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije who was adjudged as the best mayor of Africa in the capital city.
Gigantic billboard of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly’s (AMA) Chief Executive, Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije have been mounted across the city to welcome the Accra mayor who was adjudged as the best African Mayor.
The billboard, with the inscription: “Congratulations; Honourable Mayor of Accra, Accra Welcomes You Back From Angola, Akwaaba!!!,” and bearing his large portraits, have not only announced his presence with a big bang in the metropolis, but have raised eyebrows as they capture the attention of residents.
The billboard was strategically dotted in front of the AMA's office.
The display of the billboard showcase the mayor who won the inaugural edition of the prestigious President Jose Eduardo Dos Santos as the African Mayor Awards.
The award includes a trophy designed by a distinguished Angolan artist, a certificate and a cash prize of 200,000 dollars.
The award was held in Luanda, Angola as part of the 2nd Africa Urban Infrastructure Investment Forum. The event, which took place on Thursday April 30, 2015 at the Talatona Convention Centre (CCTA), saw Accra emerge as the winner in the Large Cities category with contenders including Cape Town in South Africa and Dakar in Senegal.
Dr. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije ended the shift school system in the Accra and started the construction of 110 millennium city schools, with eleven completed.
