A group of able bodied men aligned to the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) stormed the Talensi by-election Constituency over reports that some NDC youth group are preventing NPP members from visiting some polling stations.

The group called “Bolga Bull Dogs” according to reports mounted road blocks in Tongo and are thoroughly searching every vehicle that ply the roads.

Reports indicates that the activities of these louts have generated a lot of tension in the area, creating a huge traffic and has impeded easy movement.

The “Bolga Bull Dogs” have explained that their action is in response to a similar action taken by an NDC aligned youth group who are said to have also taken over the hinterlands in the constituency, and are preventing NPP members from visiting those areas.

Earlier, a combined team of police and military personnel on Tuesday morning seized a registered AK47 rifle and a pistol, which were in a ford van headed for the Tonga electoral area, the capital of the Talensi Constituency.

Some 39,523 registered voters in the Talensi Constituency of the Upper East Region to elect a new Member of Parliament, after their MP abdicated his seat  to become a traditional ruler.

The seat, being contested by the two main political parties who have vowed to defeat each other has heightened tension.
