Almost 400 people killed in road accident in 1st quarter of 2015

These figures according to the National Road Safety Commission, exceed the national fatality target of 341 for the period by almost 16 percent.

 

Some 395 people died in road crashes in the first quarter of 2015. 2, 442 persons have also been injured in the crashes involving 4, 335 vehicles.These figures according to the National Road Safety Commission, exceed the national fatality target of 341 for the period by almost 16 percent.Between January and March 2015, a total of 2,863 road traffic crashes were recorded nationwide involving 4,335 vehicles.This resulted in 395 deaths and 2,442 injuries in the first quarter of the year.There were however reductions in the various indicators comparing the same period in 2014.For instance total number of reported cases in 2014 was 3,621 as against 2,863 in 2015.547 persons died in 2014 as against 395 same period in 2015.Injured persons in 2014 was 3,432 compared to 2,442 in 2015.On regional basis, the Greater Accra, Brong Ahafo, Eastern and Ashanti were the most crash prone regions.Fatalities recorded in these regions constituted 64%.
