Protest at Sodom and Gomorrah over AMA demolition

The threat to demolish follows the June 3 twin flood and fire disaster which claimed about 159 lives.

Displaced settlers at the Sodom and Gomorrah slum in the Central Business District of Accra Monday morning embarked on a massive demonstration to register their displeasure at Saturday’s demolition of some structures at the grounds.

Parts of the biggest slum in the capital, Old Fadama, infamously referred to as "Sodom and Gomorrah" was demolished as promised by the Greater Accra Regional minister, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo.

A taskforce from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, with support from the security services are expected to take earth moving equipment to the area to demolish structures which for years have served as homes for thousands of migrants mostly from the Northern Region.
