Member of Parliament for the Odododiodio Constituency, Nii Lantey Vanderpuije has blamed the main opposition New Patriotic Party for their role in the demonstrations by displaced settlers of the Sodom and Gomorrah slum in Accra.

Slum dwellers at Old Fadama were on rampage Monday after city authorities demolished their structures.

The irate protestors destroyed three police vehicles and a motorbike and managed to besiege the State House and went ahead to vandalise parts of the building and some parked vehicles.

But according to the MP, "It is irresponsible for the NPP to take advantage of the demonstration to score cheap political point."

In an interview on Citi FM, he said, "Yes I have no problem with the people demonstrating... It's their right. I am saying that it is irresponsible to take advantage of it, clad in NPP T-shirts, give them flags and be shouting Nana Addo's name."

He stated that, "The NPP is giving excuse that their office was demolished...yes I agree but three of my sheds was also demolished."

Meanwhile, the police has arrested twenty-six (26) protestors who demonstrated against the demolition of Old Fadama.

The suspects, according to the Greater Accra Regional Police PRO, ASP Effia Tenge, have been sent to the Accra regional Police Command for interrogation.
