Former Deputy Sports Minister calls for re-introduce PE into tertiary education curriculum

Yammin believes the introduction will help develop the skills and talents of the students.

The former Deputy Sports Minister, Joseph Yammin is advocating for the re-introduction of Physical Education (PE) into the tertiary education curriculum.

Hon. Yammin believes the introduction will help develop the skills and talents of the students.

“In the advance countries, they seem to protect the educational skills and also develop the natural talents especially in terms of sports; this makes such personalities marketable enough,” he remarked on Royal FM’s morning show.

According to Hon. Yammin, Ghana’s educational institutions frown on developing the football skills of talented students who pass out of the secondary level to the tertiary level.

“Ghana can have doctors who double as footballers, engineers who are footballers among others”, he reiterated.

He also expressed worry that Ghanaians have turned sports into money making business; a situation he says puts the sports ministry in a bad position.

“Ghanaians are not able to maintain their players to a specific standard since they are money conscious which has deteriorated the importance and acceptance of our local leagues”, he stated.
