Kweku Baako punches Vanderpuije over "insulting" comments

The Deputy Local Government and Rural Development Minister, Nii Lante Vanderpuije accused the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) of instigating the residents of Old Fadama to demonstrate against government.

Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide, Kweku Baako Jnr has chided politicians who claim the demonstration by settlers at Old Fadama popularly known as was politically motivated and supported by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Over one thousand homes were destroyed last Saturday as the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) undertook a demolition exercise at Sodom and Gomorrah rendering a lot of people homeless.

The affected individuals took to the streets on Monday morning to demonstrate against the AMA. The entrance of the State House and some vehicles within the premises were vandalised by the angry residents. According to reports, the groups picketed at various spots including the Parliament House, State House, AMA office and the Agbogbloshie Market.

“I want to tell those who are seeking to take political advantage of this that they won’t succeed…if there is a situation like this on hand, why would you go there and distribute your party T-Shirts, flags and placards to them to demonstrate…you won’t succeed…,” he stated on Asempa FM.

But speaking on Peace FM’s morning show, , Mr. Baako wondered why anybody would read political meanings into the protest. According to him, such a comment is an insult on the intelligence of the Agbogbloshie protesters.

"Is that not an insult to those who were on the streets? Is that not a deliberate attempt to ignore that in reality, there was something that sparked the thing? They don’t even have any evidence. The evidence they put out is ridiculous. The point being made was that it was like consciously somebody packaged those things, held meetings with the people, instigated them onto the streets and then gave them those things. Look, no serious political party will even do that. Why would you want to show your hand in that way?” he queried.
