Movie stores and warehouse belonging to some film producers, distributors and marketers at the Kejetia Bus Terminal in Kumasi were robbed over the weekend by unknown assailants.

Reports suggest that the robbers broke into the shops through the ceiling joints of the various shops on the last floor of the storey building and took away over Gh¢100,000, television sets, CD players, CCTV cameras, among other valuable things on the Saturday night.

Ahmed Banda, known in showbiz circles as Bandex who confirmed the news on Radio Univers’ mid-morning show, blamed the cause on the current power outages in the country.

“Half of the blame will go to the recent power fluctuations. Also, when authorities decided to relocate drivers to the Kumasi Race Course to pave way for the redevelopment of the terminal, all street lights at Kejetia were disconnected. So the place is almost always dark. The robbers broke into one of the shops and later gained access to the other shops through the ceiling because of how the structure was built,” he said.

When show host Abrantepa asked if there were no security personnel around, Bandex answered that because of the relocation, it was possible none was around.

He explained that they had their monies there because they worked on Saturday but since banks do not work on Saturdays, it was safer to keep the monies there than sending them home, especially when they usually close late in the evening.
