Over 3,000 policemen deployed for Dec 31st night services

Several churches will be holding all-night services to cross over into the New Year as well as thank God for guiding them throughout 2015.

About 3,200 personnel have been deployed to tighten security on the roads during the 31st and New Year celebrations.

Addressing the media in Accra, regional commander COP Dr George Akuffu Dampare said “There are other arrangements you put in place which the nature of it is such that we cannot share with the public because they are very confidential security arrangements, and we want to assure you that when we put all these things together we are going to have a very peaceful, quiet 31st night and a New Year.”

The police have also indicated that check points would be mounted at vantage points to ensure drivers devoid from driving under the influence of alcohol that could cause accident.

In their assessment of ‘Operation Father Christmas’ programme launched, the police said they noticed that motor accidents was a major challenge.

Security will also be tightened at various beaches during the New Year celebrations.

“We are also putting people at the various locations where events are taking place,” COP Dr George Akuffu Dampare added.
