Scores of residents at the Keta municipality of the Volta Region were on Sunday displaced by strong tidal waves, with hundreds of houses and schools being submerged in floods.
The situation has compelled many to move to families and friends in neighbouring towns to seek refuge.
Some of the residents have told Accra-based Joy FM that government's inability to complete the Keta Sea Defence project is the reason behind the unfortunate situation.
“Government has deceived us for for too long and it is time to redeem their promise by coming to our rescue before the worst happens,” a resident said.
On his part, the MP for Anlo, Clement Humado, who visited the area said a review of the coastal defence project has become necessary.
The situation has also destroyed teaching and learning materials in the area.
Officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) are yet to provide relief items for the areas affected.
