Residents of Rasta, a community between the Teshie Military Academy and the Mars Barracks are living in fear due to constant attacks by armed robbers.

On the average, the residents claim they are attacked twice a week and this has been going on since December 2014.

The situation is making their lives unbearable, causing many of the residents to abandon their homes to seek refuge elsewhere.

John Antwi, a resident at Rasta was a victim of one of such attacks and according to him, the armed robbers come almost every night wielding guns, machetes and other weapons.

“They often come in group, they are about five men. Three of them will enter while two stand around shooting.

“It is really scary and you go to the police and they tell you they don’t have cars, they don’t have personnel, you just don’t understand”

Maame Akua, another resident in the community tells Citi News they no longer know peace and is hoping that something urgent will be done soon.

“As soon as it turns 6pm then I start feeling sick because I know they [the Armed Robbers] will soon be coming. Three days ago I had to flee my house with my kids because we were afraid.

The police has to help us because we are suffering” – she said. Meanwhile other residents expressed concern about the slow response of the police whenever these attacks are reported.

“We always call the Teshie Police but mysteriously they always wait till the robbery ends before they arrive. They needs to wake up because now Rasta is hell.”
