Mahama to re-open Adomi Bridge on Saturday

This follows the completion of extensive rehabilitation works by the Austrian Construction and Engineering firm, Bilfinger MCE GmbH on the 335metre bridge, spanning across the Volta Lake.

Motorists who use the Adomi Bridge situated at Atimpoku in the Eastern region can now heave a sigh of relief.

President Mahama is expected to commission the bridge on Saturday, December 19, 2015.

The bridge, which connects the Volta region to other parts of the country through the Eastern region, was closed down in March 2014 for rehabilitation.

This created a lot of inconvenience to motorists and other travellers moving from the central and northern parts of the Volta region to the national capital, Accra.

This is because they spend long hours waiting to cross the lake with the two ferries provided by the Ghana Highway Authority at Senchi.Asuogyamang Chief Executive, Ampem Darko has however told Accra-based Citi FM that the bridge will be opened as soon as it is commissioned on Saturday.

“I can confirm that work is almost complete. About last week, we had a site meeting, and there is every indication that they have finished with the work. They are cleaning up the place and putting finishing touches to it,” he added.
