The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have stated that they do not rely on middlemen to recruit people into the establishment.

“The military does not undertake its recruitment through agents and we do not charge money before recruiting people into the Armed Forces,” the Director of Public Affairs of the GAF, Lieutenant Aggrey Quarshie, has said.

They have, accordingly, warned the public seeking recruitment into the GAF to not rely on middlemen or agents.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic, Lt Quarshie urged the public to desist from paying money to civilians to facilitate their recruitment into the GAF.

A recruitment fraud recently hit the Ghana Police Service. The military said it detected a similar incident before the end of last year and early this year.

Eight people have been arrested in the recent fake police recruitment, which has also led to the interdiction of the Director General of Human Resource Development of the Police Service, COP Patrick Timbillah.

Lt Quarshie said the Military Police had, in the last three months, apprehended four persons who allegedly lured people with a promise of recruiting them into the GAF.

The suspects, who were arrested separately for the recruitment scam, were handed over to the Cantonments Police for further investigations and prosecution, he said.

“They were parading themselves as military men and recruiting people into the Armed Forces. They were arrested and our Military Police have handed them over to the Cantonments Police,” he said.

Meanwhile, checks at the Cantonments Police Station revealed that investigations into the matter had been completed and the suspects prosecuted.

Lt Quarshie said the introduction of the e-recruitment system by the GAF had cut down human involvement in recruitment processes.

“In the e-recruitment system, persons who seek recruitment into the Armed Forces fill out a form online and they get a feedback. If you do not qualify, the reasons for your disqualification will be made known to you. It could be that you are overage (the cut off age is 25), [or it has to do with] height or educational background,” he said.

“It is those who do not qualify who try to circumvent the e-recruitment system by paying money to people. If you are not qualified, just try your luck in another profession,” he added.

Lt Quarshie also explained that persons who were selected in the recruitment, particularly for the junior ranks, “do not go to the training centres individually. They assemble at the El-wak Sports Stadium before they are conveyed in buses to the various training centres”.
