The Ghana National Fire Service has announced plans to roll out an online application platform for prospective recruits into the service.

This comes after a hoax message went viral on social media about recruitment last year.

In an exclusive interview with Pulse.com.gh, the head of Public Relations at the Fire Service, Timothy Osafo-Affum said the latest move was because scammers were trying to exploit desperate applicants.

“The good news is very soon we are going to recruit but this time, the recruitment will not be [paper based]. Everything will be online for you to log in, fill the necessary details and then you submit.”

Osafo-Affum believes the four year drought of recruitment into the service has made applicants vulnerable to fraudsters. He recalls how some people became victims to these fraudsters.

“Since last year and early this year, there have been people trooping in to ask whether we are recruiting. There are others too who paid monies to some people in an effort to be recruited into the Fire Service. [Because we have not recruited for four years], some unscrupulous persons are duping the unsuspecting public. We are not recruiting yet but when we are, we will make it public.”

In the interview, he also spoke about the service’s preparedness to fight fires and their efforts executing rescue operations.
