Parliament hasn’t watched any Anas video on MPs - Nitiwul

The former Attorney General, Martin Amidu had argued that Anas had shown the video to the leadership of Parliament and they had given their backing to its suppression.

The Deputy Minority Leader in Parliament, Dominic Nitiwul has denied claims that the leadership of Parliament has previewed an alleged video from journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas which purportedly captured some Members of Parliament indulging in corrupt activities.

However, in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM on Thursday, Mr Dominic Nitiwul said the video they watched was rather that of the judicial scandal.

“I don’t know who may have told Martin Amidu that Parliamentary leadership or any MP watched any video of Members of Parliament caught on tape allegedly being corrupt, it’s not a true story.  We did have the privilege to watch the judicial corruption video before it became public. It has nothing to do with parliament,” he said.

He said Anas had wanted them to preview the video so that they would not be too shocked when he released it to the public.

“He [Anas] said he didn’t want to shock some aspect of the nation on what is coming on, so he wanted some select leadership of the other arms of government including the judiciary to have a look at it before it will come out because his aim is not to rock the boat but to reform the system. And for that matter he wanted us to have a preview before it comes out so that we prepare ourselves to ensure that this nation does not sink further below what was coming. We made our comments and he captured us on tape. He documented everything for future reference,” he added.
