Ghana Meteo warns of heavy rains, at least 10% more than 2016 starting in March
According to a statement released by the agency and copied to the Ghana News Agency, the increase is expected in the Eastern Coastal Belt of the country and would affect the Greater Accra and Volta regions.

“For the East Coastal Belt, it said the rains were expected within the second and third week of March. The range of expected rainfall amount over this region is 390mm to 490mm, an increase of about 10 per cent over that of 2016,” GNA reports.

"The rainy season is expected to begin in the Forest Region of the country in the second and third week of March, with an estimated amount of 470mm to 600mm. This meant an increase of 25 percent over that of 2016”, the report adds.
In Northern Ghana however, the rains are expected to begin in April and end in late October.
The season is however expected to be dogged by lengthy dry spells especially in the coastal and transitional belts.

The increase in rainfall all over the country will cause grave concern for many especially in urban centres such as Accra and Tema because of the floods that follow.

In June 2015, the floods led to the loss of hundreds of lives and millions of property in Accra alone.
